About

Hi, I'm Shuhan Ding
I’m a product designer who cares deeply about how people experience the objects they live with every day—how products are understood, used, and felt over time.
Originally from China, I came to the U.S. in 2018 for college and earned my B.S. in Industrial Design from the University of Cincinnati. Living and designing across cultures has shaped how I observe, adapt, and approach design problems. My training emphasized form development, prototyping, and visual communication, alongside coursework in information technology and psychology. This foundation guides me to think beyond appearance and function, and to design with clarity, usability, and emotional impact in mind.
Through three internships across different cities and industries, I learned to adapt quickly to diverse design workflows, collaborate effectively across disciplines, and move ideas forward in professional settings. I currently work as a product designer in the U.S., specializing in home goods. I work across the full product development process, from early concept exploration to manufacturing-ready design specifications. Collaborating closely with engineers and suppliers has grounded my practice in materials, feasibility, and real-world constraints. I enjoy making thoughtful trade-offs that preserve usability, design intent, and emotional quality.
I'm a product designer and M.S. student in Engineering Design Innovation at Northwestern University, interested in the intersection of physical products, digital experiences, and emerging technology. I'm particularly drawn to smart home products and connected devices that thoughtfully integrate into everyday life.
Originally from China, I earned my B.S. in Industrial Design from the University of Cincinnati. Living and designing across cultures has shaped how I approach problems with curiosity, empathy, and an appreciation for different perspectives. My background in industrial design, along with studies in information technology and psychology, has shaped my approach to creating intuitive, meaningful, and human-centered experiences.
Before Northwestern, I spent three years working as a product designer in the consumer products industry, bringing ideas from early concepts to manufacturing-ready designs. Collaborating with engineers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams taught me to balance creativity with technical feasibility and real-world constraints.
At Northwestern, I'm expanding my technical understanding and exploring how physical design, interaction, and technology can come together to create thoughtful products and experiences. I'm currently seeking internship opportunities in product design, industrial design, and UI/UX design, where I can contribute my experience while continuing to learn and grow.
